Culture Eats Strategy for Breakfast!

At Integral Leadership, we have an unwavering conviction in Peter Drucker’s adage that “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”. In light of this belief, our clients’ cultures are aligned with the strategies they set. We place a heavy emphasis on examining the emotional aspects of culture and understanding their impacts on decision-making, behaviour, and performance at work. To help organisations succeed, we have devised a four-phase Culture Transformation approach to equip them with the insights they need to engender a work environment where employees can flourish. This way, businesses can mutually reap the rewards of collective achievement.

Target Culture Design

Achieving success necessitates the right target culture. To begin, executive leadership must assess their current cultural state and define a goal that aligns with strategic objectives. Incorporating input from various levels of management and employees is key to this assessment process. In this phase we help you to land on three things:

  • Understanding your strategic imperatives for culture – what is it that you need culture to do for you? What values, behaviours, and feelings are required of your people to deliver your strategy?
  • Identifying the target culture required to achieve strategy. This includes both the rational and emotional perspectives.
  • Identifying the high level road-map and journey to get there. Invariably this includes work with the top team to up-level culture execution capabilities.

Culture Action Planning

Companies that are serious about achieving success should make culture a top priority and develop their own CAP with the help of Culture Champions. Investing in this plan will enable them to create an individualised culture, allowing values to be realised over time – driving lasting change throughout the organisation. The CAP typically includes:

  • The culture shaping initiatives to be implemented.
  • Creating change communications. This includes opportunities for leaders to role model the way.
  • Establishing measures to monitor progress.

Leading Culture

Transformative change starts with leadership, who can set the tone and example to drive a new cultural reality. IL coaching programmes provide crucial support in helping everyone – from C-level executives to entry level staff — develop the communication skills and emotional intelligence needed for this shift. By investing these resources into each individual team member, you’ll be empowering them towards radical progress within your organisation’s culture.
